WHO WE ARE

The Akira Family Trust t/a Econo Truck & Spares, was established in June 1996 by the companies’ Trustee and Managing Director, Rashid Cassimjee, who has been in the trucking business for more than 20 years. Mr Cassimjee a qualified diesel mechanic by trade is renowned for his extensive knowledge of trucks and heavy duty spares. After serving his apprenticeship, he worked for Datnis before progressing to become an employee and then a director of HTS in Mkondeni. This followed with the opening of Econo Truck Spares which is situated in Umlaas Road, approximately 18km from Pietermaritzburg and half an hour’s drive from Durban.

Since inception the company has specialized in the sale of second-hand and refurbished trucks, trailers, buses, tractors, heavy and light plant as well as Bakkies and farming implements. The company also retails new and second-hand heavy duty spares. Over the years the company has established mechanical workshops, a welding shop for fabrication of back bodies as well as a panelbeating and respraying workshop.

Experienced and dedicated personnel are employed in the yards, workshops, administration and sales offices. The sales team is headed by Brett Keartland, who has been with the company since its early days, also a mechanic by trade. Brett too has extensive knowledge of used trucks and spares. Laurence Pillay and Rishaad Cassimjee CA(SA), complement the balance of the sales force. Irshaad Cassimjee CA(SA) control the finance department and Subashnee Munsami administration.

So what is it that distinguishes Econo Truck Spares from regular truck outlets? It’s the fact that we supply fully refurbished vehicles based on customer requirements and specifications. Our refurbishments include a complete mechanical overhaul i.e engine, differential and gearbox as well as suspension and braking system overhaul, new tyres, cabs are resprayed and fully trimmed and back bodies fabricated, painted and fitted.  Although established in Kwazulu Natal, Econo Truck Spares have sold vehicles to clients all over the Republic as well as in bordering countries and as far afield as the D R C and Australia.
